Welcome to SALINA CRUZ SURF CAMP

Located in Oaxaca, Mexico, we are an adventure surfing outpost next to the world’s best right-hand sand point breaks.

Our base camp, also known as Casa El Mirador, was established in 1999 as the area’s first surf camp — and is still 100% locally owned and operated.

Sitting atop one of the highest hills in Salina Cruz, the camp offers 360-degree views of waves, the city, and surrounding mountains.

With proven local knowledge and top-level guides, we invite you to experience the best surf, food, and culture Mexico has to offer.

Discover Salina Cruz

Salina Cruz is a port city in southeast Mexico, located in the state of Oaxaca, just a few hours south of Huatulco and Puerto Escondido. Once a traditional fishing port with local cooperatives, it has become the most important industrial center in Oaxaca — and in recent years, it’s gained international recognition for its world-class waves.

The nearest airport is located about 2 hours away in the beautiful city of Huatulco. Between Salina Cruz and Huatulco, there are around 17 surf spots, giving us options based on swell, wind, and tides.

The area is also well-known for excellent fishing and diving, thanks to crystal-clear waters and abundant marine life — including tuna, mahi mahi, turtles, and dolphins.

During surf season, expect hot and humid weather, with air temperatures in the low 90s °F (around 32 °C) and water temperatures that are just right for surfing.

How to Get to Salina Cruz

Getting here is simple. Most international travelers enter Mexico through Mexico City, then connect to a regional airport near Salina Cruz.

Step 1

Passport & Entry into Mexico

To enter Mexico, you’ll need a valid passport. Most international travelers fly into Mexico City International Airport (MEX).

If you're already in Mexico, domestic flights make the journey even easier. There are also multiple daily direct flights from Tijuana to Oaxaca City.

Fly to Huatulco (HUX) or Oaxaca (OAX)

Once in Mexico, you have two airport options about 2.5 hours from Salina Cruz:

Choose the airport based on flight availability and your travel route — both are commonly used by surf travelers visiting Salina Cruz.

Step 3

Final Leg — Load Up With Your Driver

Just touched down? Grab your boards and gear and head toward the airport exit. Your driver will be waiting out front with a sign — you can’t miss him.

Meet the Family Behind Casa el Mirador

Casa Mirador began as a dream. César Ramírez is the founder and creator of what Casa el Mirador is today. What started in 1999 as the first surf camp in the area has grown naturally over the years, shaped by passion, hard work, and deep local roots.
